Sunscreen in Egypt: the one step you can't skip

Sunscreen in Egypt: the one step you can't skip
August 8, 2026

You can spend thousands on serums for dark spots and undo all of it by skipping sunscreen. In Egypt, with strong sun most of the year, SPF isn't the last step of a routine — it's the foundation.

What the numbers mean

SPF measures protection from UVB, the rays that burn. PA+ ratings measure UVA, the rays that age skin and drive pigmentation. You want both: SPF 50 PA+++ or higher.

You are almost certainly using too little

The tested amount is roughly two finger-lengths for the face and neck, or about a quarter-teaspoon. Most people apply a third of that, which turns an SPF 50 into something closer to SPF 15.

Reapply, or don't bother

Sunscreen degrades. Every two to three hours outdoors, and after sweating. A sun stick or cushion over makeup makes this realistic instead of theoretical.

Finding one you'll actually wear

The best sunscreen is the one you don't dread applying. Korean and Japanese formulas transformed this category — lightweight, no white cast, genuinely pleasant to use.

  • Oily skin — light fluid or gel textures with a matte finish.
  • Dry skin — hydrating creams with hyaluronic acid or ceramides.
  • Sensitive skin — mineral filters with zinc oxide.
  • Over makeup — sticks and cushions for reapplication.
